Book of Common Prayer 1662 Morning & Evening Prayer
Book of Common Prayer services are held at different times across the Chesil Churches, so please check the service rota. Each service lasts for about 40 minutes.
The Book of Common Prayer is the actually a collection of different services, that the Church of England has used since 1662. This includes the service of Morning and Evening Prayer.
In either Abbotsbury, Langton Herring or Portesham, Book of Common Prayer Evening Prayer is offered once a month. This is Evening Prayer, rather than Evensong, because at the moment, the service is said rather than sung.
Morning Prayer -also known as Matins- is celebrated only at Langton Herring. This at 10am on a the third Sunday, only when the given month has a fifth Sunday in it. If in doubt, please contact the parish priest with responsibility for Langton Herring.
At the moment, there is not a separate service sheet for these services. Instead all the churches use the traditional Cambridge University press published Prayer Book.
